INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR

Dr. Michelle Sinclair

Dr. Sinclair is an experienced international nonprofit founder and manager, a research academic specializing in international development across borders, and a prolific published author in this area. Originally from Australia she moved to the USA to accept an offer to base her work at Harvard Law School as a Fellow with the Animal Law & Policy Program, also becoming an affiliated academic with Stanford Medical School.


Aiming to better understand the stakeholders capable of making impactful change, her mixed methodology research focusses on the identification of barriers, opportunities, mutual benefits, and solutions with the goal of engaging traditionally adversarial parties into collaborations to improve strategy beyond borders.


Dr. Sinclair’s intersectionality and adaptability can be demonstrated by the various disciplines that have hosted her work (schools of law, medicine and veterinary science) and by the multitude of diverse cultural and geopolitical regions in which she has successfully hosted collaborative programs and conducted research. She has conducted work in Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Africa and visited over 68 countries. Dr. Sinclair is particularly skilled at bringing together international teams for impactful collaborative projects. She project-managed the very first poultry welfare guidelines for the ASEAN nations (representing 10 nations and 600 million + people), has led funded collaborations between the European Commission, the World Organization for Animal Health and national governments, is a PhD advisor and mentor in international animal welfare and conservation. She continues her work to support strategy development with multinational non-profits.

SCIENCE + RESEARCH DIRECTOR

Dr. Jeremy Marchant

Originally from Cambridge University in the UK, Dr. Marchant moved to the USA to work as a Research Scientist for the Federal Government where he specialized in farm animal welfare science for 22 years.


While primarily focused on the behavior and physiology of stress and welfare, Dr. Marchant is also actively engaged in inter-disciplinary studies allied to the concept of One Health and One Welfare (the interconnectedness between the health and welfare of humans, animals, and the environment). This interest has led Dr. Marchant to his current role as the Chief Scientist at Organic Plus Trust.


Dr. Marchant has authored and edited 4 books and over 260 academic articles, the originality and quality of which has earned him a place amongst the top 2% of scientists in the world - across any field. He has conducted research in the UK, USA, Canada and Denmark, and has been a mentor and vocal advocate in the development of change makers in lesser developed nations within Africa, South America and Asia.


In acknowledgement of his large impact, Dr. Marchant has been awarded a prestigious Honorary Fellowship to the International Society of Applied Ethology (2023), of which he is also a past President.

COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Claire Fryer

Ms. Fryer brings over two decades of experience in animal welfare, animal rights, human rights and environmental protection initiatives.


As a national and international media spokesperson, she has eloquently advocated for causes across all forms of media and represented challenging ideas in considered and relatable ways. She has authored diverse communications ranging from eye-catching press releases to co-authoring academic peer-reviewed publications.


Ms. Fryer recently finalized the delivery of a landmark online animal welfare accreditation course for China. Bolstering already impressive experience in non-profit communication development, she has also been a research assistant in projects aimed at better understanding how to engage key stakeholders and reach across tables to appeal to stakeholders with diverse positions.


Ms. Fryer is particularly skilled at grasping and communicating challenging topics to wider audiences. Originally from the UK and now living in Australia, she has also worked in the Philippines, China, Thailand, Malaysia, VietNam, Bangladesh and India. She is a vocal and passionate proponent of gender equality and animal rights, and stands strongly against domestic violence, bullying and abuse of power. She believes meaningful change comes when you make enough people care about a topic and is always looking to improve her methods of communication to engage a wider audience.

Ms. Lawson has managed and worked within nonprofit initiatives both domestically and internationally for over a decade. Having successfully led people-based programs in Australia and China, Ms. Lawson has become confident in problem solving the many operational challenges that come with coordinating international efforts across vastly different geopolitical regions.


Currently a Human Resources Advisor at RSPCA in Australia, she is dedicated to the development of effective future leaders, is highly proficient at leading multifaceted operations and in developing strategy to empower. She is philosophically aligned to concepts of effective altruism and has special interests in the protection of vulnerable people such as refugees and asylum seekers, and racial equality.
